05/13/2010 - Madrid, Spain (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic highlighted Thursday's third-round winners at the $4.5 million Madrid Open, a clay-court French Open tune-up.

The seventh-seeded Jankovic drilled Spain's own Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-0 on Day 6 at the Magic Box. The Serbian star advanced in 68 minutes, with the help of six service breaks in seven tries.

The surging former U.S. Open finalist Jankovic was last week's runner-up on the red clay in Rome.

Jankovic's quarterfinal opponent here on Friday will be France's Aravane Rezai.

In other Thursday action involving seeds, No. 8 Aussie Samantha Stosur stopped Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and No. 13 Chinese Li Na handled Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 6-3. The ever-improving Stosur has quietly won 21 of her last 24 matches on the tour.

Two other third-rounders saw Rezai hold off German Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) and Israeli Shahar Peer paste Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja 7-5, 6-2. The wild card Parra Santonja reached her first-ever WTA Tour final last week, but lost in Estoril.

Friday's other quarters will pit fourth-seeded former top-ranked star Venus Williams against Stosur, Li versus Peer and 16th-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova against Czech Lucie Safarova. Petrova upset world No. 1 Serena Williams here on Wednesday.
