Bayern beats Bremen to take Bundesliga lead

01/23/2010 - Bremen, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Arjen Robben's goal in the 78th minute allowed Bayern Munich to claim a 3-2 win over Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion on Saturday, moving Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Aaron Hunt had Bremen ahead after 10 minutes, but his opener was canceled out by Thomas Muller, with Ivica Olic putting Bayern ahead at halftime with a goal in the 35th minute.

Bremen equalized 15 minutes from time through Hugo Almeida, but a free kick from Robben three minutes later found its way past goalkeeper Tim Wiese after it struck the underside of the crossbar.

Bayern now leads second-placed Bayer Leverkusen by one point, with Leverkusen having a chance to regain the lead with a win at Hoffenheim on Sunday.

The visitors entered the match on a five-game winning streak and they nearly took the lead three minutes into the contest when Robben struck the outside of the post with only Wiese to beat.

However, the hosts took advantage of their first real chance in the 10th minute when Marko Marin played Hunt in behind the Bayern defense and he beat goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt at his near post.

Bayern leveled the match 15 minutes later when a nice dummy from Mario Gomez allowed Muller to beat the keeper from inside the box, while a cross from Philipp Lahm 10 minutes later was helped on by Gomez and finished off at the back post by Olic.

Robben should have added another goal right before the break when Wiese came off his line to challenge Muller, leaving the Dutchman with an empty net from 20 yards, but he chipped the ball over.

Bayern continued to dominate but they wasted a number of chances before Bremen grabbed the equalizer 15 minutes from time.

Michael Rensing replaced Butt in the Bayern goal at halftime, and he was beaten with a well-stuck volley from Almeida, who was played behind the defense by a nice chip from Marin.

However, Bayern wasn't done and they regained the lead for good three minutes later when Robben's free kick from a tight angle struck the underside of the crossbar and beat Wiese.

The hosts should have had a third goal of their own in the 83rd minute when Marin poked home a loose ball following a scramble in front of the Bayern net, but he was wrongly ruled to be offside.

Borussia Dortmund moved into fourth place with a 1-0 win over Hamburg as Nelson Valdez scored the lone goal in the first half, while Schalke could have moved to the top of the table with a win, but they squandered a two-goal lead in the second half and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Bochum.

Mainz downed Hannover, 1-0, Eintracht and Nurnberg played to a 1-1 draw and Monchengladbach finished 0-0 with Hertha Berlin as Monchengladbach's Juan Arango missed a penalty kick.
